Viola odorata
Sweet violet is European native, and has been introduced and naturalized into the United States. The flowers are either purple/violet or white in color and are quite fragrant.
May be considered invasive. Readily reseeds if not deadheaded. Classification: Perennial Height: 6-12 inches Sow: Fall or in the Spring after the last frost Light: Full sun to partial shade. Hardy in Zones 4 through 9. Prefers rich, cool soil to germinate. Sweet voilet will require a cold stratification if sowed indoors. Will tolerate alkaline soil. To collect seeds, bag the flower on the plant as the seeds will self-scatter when mature.
