Successive Sowing Print E-mail

When growing food crops, it can be overwhelming to get a large harvest of one vegetable at one time.  For example, what is a two person household going to do with fifty carrots?

By success sowing, you are sowing seeds at determined intervals so that you extend the harvest over several weeks.  If the same two person household sowed a smaller number of carrots seeds, and then sowed them again two weeks later, there would be two separate smaller harvests.

Check your seed packets and begin sowing on the first available date, and continue to successively sow every two weeks until the last available date.

A few examples of vegetables that work well with successive sowing are root crops such as carrots and radishes, lettuce and other greens.

Keep in mind that not all food crops respond to successive sowing as some vegetables mature relating to temperature.
