Ocimum basilicum

Also know as Sweet Basil.  Basil is used in cooking generally right before serving the dish as cooking quickly kills the flavor of basil leaves.

Classification: Perennial in hot locations, Annual if frost
Height: 12-40 inches
Sow: Late Winter or Early Spring after danger of frost, 1/4 inch deep
Germination Time: 7 to 14 days

Prefers full light.  Does very well in a greenhouse environment.

Basil is very sensitive to cold conditions, best growth is achieved in hot conditions.

Flowers:  White to Purple

Thrives in well-drained soil.

Hardy in Zones 9 to 10.
