Coriandrum sativum Also known as Coriander and Chinese Parsley. Coriander refers to the seeds, which are used as a spice. Cilantro is the Spanish name for the plant and refers to the leaves, which are used as an herb. Cilantro is very commonly used in Mexican salsas and guacamole. Classification: Annual, will reseed if given the opportunity. Prefers full light. Cilantro does not take well to transplanting as the long tap root is delicate. Cilantro is short-lived, so should be harvested while fresh. Make successive sowings two to four weeks apart for harvest throughout the summer. Thrives in well-drained soil. Hardy in Zones 3 to 10. |
